Carl Fahringer was known by his contemporaries for being restless and critical. He reacted sensitive to the judgement of collectors and art lovers and the story goes that he destroyed certificates and even his own paintigs after getting negative reviews. The anecdote which lead to his change of university gives evidence of his special sense of humor: when the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna expected some important ladies to visit Carl Fahringer displayed himself completely naked in a niche in the wall as a living statue. The joke caused such a scandal that Carl Fahringer had to leave the university in 1898 and finished his studies in Munich.

The Academy in Munich laid the foundions for Carl Fahringer's very own artistic style, the artist developed an individual impressionism with a very colorfull manner of painting and characteristic broad brush strokes. In this personal manner he created a large number of distinguished paintings of exotic wild animals.
